Preview: Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li

Chun Li 2.jpgI've been avoiding previewing this movie.

Chun-Li is a character that's near and dear to my heart, and to see such terrible things done in her name makes me feel like I'm being stabbed in chest. My sister and I would fight over who got to be Chun Li while playing SF2, because, well the roster was pretty thin and she was the only girl. It also didn't escape my notice that Chun Li was essential to beating my cousin's Ryu.

Either way, the movie's out this week, and I would be remiss if I didn't end up previewing it at all, simply because you have to chronicle the good and the bad or history is doomed to repeat itself.

So let's all take a deep breath, down a Xanax and go.

9_movie_image.jpgBefore I go any further, If you have about 10 minutes, watch this amazing animated short on youtube.

Notice the credits. Take that number of people, then add to it the budget of a Focus Features film, then multiply it all by the push of Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted), all of which then get an exponential marketing boost by the voice talents of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau and Christopher Plummer.

What does that equal? This trailer (after the jump), which is just the tip of the iceberg for 9, the movie...

In honor of Hugh Jackman hosting the Oscars, I figured it was only right that I preview his new movie, X-men Origins: Wolverine

After the upsetting liberties Brett Ratner took with the third installment of the X-Men franchise, Wolverine now has X-men nerds creeping cautiously back into the light asking, "Is it safe to come out again?"

For the record, I've never liked the Dragonball series, but it's got such a long history that I can't help but be curious about it. The idea of a Dragonball live action movie has been tossed around for years and it hasn't been until the popularity of comic-related movies exploded that the movie has finally been made and--

It's a travesty.

Preview: G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra

Thumbnail image for GIJoe-1.jpg

The new G.I. Joe movie is a lot like the Transformers movie: a highly anticipated big-budget summer blockbuster based on an 80s cartoon series that was originally made for the sole purpose of selling toys.

Scratch that. They're "action figures."

There was a lot of buzz surrounding the fact that the first real G.I. Joe trailer would air during the Super Bowl, and so I waited in anticipation...

Honestly, Pixar could stamp their name onto just about anything and rest assured millions of people will flock to see it. They now enjoy the rarest and most highly coveted level of name recognition that only Disney animation in its prime has wielded, and it shows in their previews. Thanks to the Super Bowl, we were treated to a teaser trailer for Pixar's next up and coming movie, Up.
